In order for the Project to develop the fruit and vegetable processing industry in the 2021-2030 period into practice and reach the target on time, there are still many things to do.
The reporter of Rural Economy has an interview with Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hong, Chairman of Vietnam Gardening Association, around this issue.
Dear Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hong, the Prime Minister recently approved the Project for the development of the fruit and vegetable processing industry in the period of 2021 - 2030 (Decision 417 / QD-TTg). As the head of the Vietnam Gardening Association - the Association initiated the movement to renovate gardens and develop fruit trees, according to him, what new features does the project have and what impacts do the activities of the association do? next time garden?
The project to develop the fruit and vegetable processing industry in the period of 2021 - 2030 has set out important goals and solutions to remove the "bottleneck" in the development of the fruit and vegetable industry in our country, which is the processing sector. Although in recent years, enterprises investing in fruit and vegetable processing and preservation have increased sharply in recent years, but in fact, the processing industry only meets 8-10% of vegetable output. annual production results. 85% of Vietnam's vegetables, tubers and fruits are consumed unprocessed, the post-harvest loss is too high, over 20%. Meanwhile, the rate of processed fruits and vegetables in the Philippines is 28%; Thailand 30%; 65% US.
In the period 2021 - 2030, the project has set a target to strive to bring the export turnover of vegetables and fruits to reach 8-10 billion USD; in which processed fruits and vegetables reach 30% or more; reduce the rate of loss after harvest each year from 1- 1.5%; over 70% of export fruit and vegetable processing and preservation establishments will reach advanced production technology qualifications and capacities; fruit and vegetable processing capacity reaches 2 million tons of products / year. By 2030, Vietnam is one of the top 5 fruit and vegetable exporting countries in the world. This is a new point, promising to create a new breakthrough in the development of the fruit and vegetable processing industry in Vietnam.
Therefore, if implemented well, the project will definitely boost the demand for vegetables and fruits, creating a strong driving force for the development of the garden economy. The situation of "good harvest, price devaluation" or "rescue of agricultural products" due to difficulties in the consuming market of products will be overcome, meeting the needs and aspirations of producers. The added value from fruit and vegetable production will be enhanced, contributing to improving production efficiency and income for members of the Vietnam Gardening Association and farmers.
In order to contribute to the successful implementation of the Project, the Vietnam Gardening Association will focus on propagating and encouraging members and farmers to develop a commodity-oriented, safe, quality and efficient, special garden economy. Especially good agricultural practices in horticulture and strengthen the link between producers and enterprises consuming and processing agricultural products.
Dear Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hong, it can be said that the Development Project of the fruit and vegetable processing industry in the period of 2021 - 2030 is a nudge to develop the fruit and vegetable industry, so the Vietnam Gardening Association will have orientations and plans. How do member organizations and members take advantage of the opportunity?
On the basis of the Project, the provinces and cities nationwide will review the planning and focus on developing vegetables and fruits that are the strengths of the locality, forming large specialized farming areas to meet raw materials for processing. . The member associations should actively participate in consulting, criticizing, contributing to building policies and appropriate solutions to promote the development of local garden economy. At the same time, to increase communication, mobilization and guidance to members and farmers to invest in the development of the garden economy, take advantage of policies to encourage production development, strengthen linkages in production and consumption. products, especially good agricultural practice to ensure the production of safe, quality products that meet the requirements of processing businesses and consumers.
